Lucknow: Congress on Friday claimed that Rahul Gandhi's ongoing campaign in Uttar Pradesh has received massive public support and the party would secure majority in the coming assembly elections.

"The atmosphere in the state is similar to that in 1978-79 when Congress emerged winner after Emergency, and the party under the guidance of Rahul Gandhi is set to get majority in the coming elections," Congress legislature party leader Pramod Tewari told reporters in Lucknow.

To questions whether Anna Hazare factor would have any impact in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, he remarked that the Anna factor had not come into play in the Maharashtra local bodies polls.

Stressing that he had respect for Hazare, Tewari however questioned the motives of Team Anna members Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejrival saying they seem to be guided by "some other force".

"It should be seen whether the money being funded to the Trusts headed by them is for the poor or for some other work," he said.
