Lucknow: Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary is confident of forming an alliance strong enough to take on any opposition in Uttar Pradesh.

Jayant played a crucial role in cobbling the “united opposition” that emerged victorious in the Kairana by-elections.

Speaking at an iftar organised by RLD on Wednesday, he said, “Around 14 political parties came together to support our candidate in the bypolls. With the support of people and our alliance, we are ready to take on any opposition.”

Jayant met Samajwadi Patry president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday along with newly elected RLD MP from Kairana, Tabassum Hasan. “Our fight is over ideology. The victory has proved that Ganga-Yamuna tehzeeb exists and is stronger than the hate peddled by our opponents,” he said.

The iftar was hosted at the RLD headquarters in Lucknow to also celebrate the victory of Tabassum Hasan and introduce her to various leaders of the party.

However, neither Akhilesh nor BSP Chief Mayawati participated in the iftar. Naresh Uttam Patel from SP was present instead on his party’s behalf. Apart from Uttam, leaders from the BSP and the Congress were also present at the RLD office, which incidentally shares its boundary with the BJP state office.

Speaking on the occasion, Hasan said, “This victory is a result of the strategy planned by Akhilesh Yadav and Jayant Chaudhary ji. We must carry this alliance further till 2019.”

Hasan had defeated BJP’s Mriganka Singh, daughter of former MP Hukum Singh in the recent by-polls by a margin of 44,618 votes. After winning the Kairana parliamentary seat, Hasan became the lone Muslim MP in Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh since 2014.
