Lucknow: A big announcement will come from Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav soon that will put an end to the family fracas in the UP’s ruling Yadav clan, according to newly-minted state unit chief and a lead actor in the drama Shivpal Yadav.
Shivpal's comments capped a day full of drama that saw him trading barbs with nephew and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, and Mulayam pitching in with a hastily-called "all's-well-in-the-family" presser in Lucknow.
Akhilesh had earlier said that "some people" had a problem with him since he was the chief minister, a statement that Shivpal refused to let go unquestioned.
"The UP CM's chair is such that one becomes egoistic. But one should not be egoistic," he told reporters in the evening.
He also sought to shield controversial SP leader Amar Singh whom both Akhilesh and Mulayam's cousin Ram Gopal Yadav had insinuated as the reason for the flare up.
"Amar Singh will never harm the family. There are a lot of people close to Akhilesh who also foment troubles," he said.
After his elder brother and the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav put his foot down declaring that he is the final word on everything concerning the Samajwadi Party, Shivpal Yadav had hit out at his nephew and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav indirectly saying that power has gone to his head.
Speaking to India TV he defended Amar Singh and gave him a clean chit. He argued that he is not responsible for the current crisis in the party and Akhilesh Yadav must understand that.
Taking a dig at Akhilesh Yadav he said "Akhilesh should learn from me just as I learnt from Mulayam Singh Yadav. Success should not go to your head if you are in the chief minister's chair".
He has also made it clear that he is not in the race for the post of CM. He said "Akhilesh should be the CM, if we form the government again. I have no reservations on this".
