New Delhi: Sitaram Yechury on Sunday submitted a report on the reason for the decline of Communist Party of India (Marxist) in India, that goes against the present General Secretary Prakash Karat's report.
According to sources, Yechury has not named Karat but has said that the implementation of the tactical line adopted by the party over the last 10 years is accountable. Prakash Karat has been heading the party for the last ten years. He is in his third term (each term comprising of three years) and cannot have another term as the General Secretary.
Karat does not want to shoulder the blame for the party's decline during his tenure. When Karat steps aside, the party will have to elect a new General Secretary. Sources says the tussle is between SR Pillai and Sitaram Yechury.
The Central Committee meeting is crucial in this regard and the committee might meet once more in January next year. The drafted political resolution, if adopted in the coming four days will be presented at the party congress. This also signals differences right at the top in the CPM leadership.
