Lucknow: When Akhilesh Yadav took over as the Chief Minister of Uttra Pradesh, he was promised to control crimes and make the state a safer place. But the last few months have shown that the crime rate is spiraling upwards and Akhilesh is just offering empty promises on the law and order front.
Some of the major incidents are the murder of DSP Zia-ul-Haq, murder and rioting in Ambedkar Nagar, beating up of a councilor in Etawah, rape of student in Ghaziabad and a threat by miscreants to throw acid on a student in Kanpur.
These reports are from the bigger cities and towns of the state, but the situation is the same in entire Uttar Pradesh. There is an old saying that Nero fiddled while Rome burnt and it applies to Uttar Pradesh too where the Chief Minister is busy promising action even as criminals have a free run.
Ambedkar Nagar is under curfew but reports of violence are still being reported. On Monday too anti-social elements damaged several shops and burnt buses after a local leader was killed on Sunday night. Shoot at sight orders were issued after the situation deteriorated and police force from several districts had to be called in. In Allahabad a Samajwadi Party MLA Vijma Yadav has been accused of beating up a councilor. Although a case has been registered against Vijma Yadav but he is yet to be arrested.
In Etawah's Jaswant Nagar a police official's family is planning to vacate the house following threats by a muscleman. A week ago a girl belonging to the family had committed suicide after she was allegedly sexually harassed by the miscreants. Even though police have registered a case and arrested three people but the family has been receiving threats and has decided to leave the area. In Ghaziabad a B Com student was raped inside her home while in Kanpur a class 10 student was allegedly threatened that acid would be thrown on her after she complained about harassment.
Some other incidents include an attack on Deputy Jailor in Firozabad, another attack on a police team in Bareilly, murder of a doctor in Meerut. In Sambhal a farmer was killed and then the person accused of killing him was murdered, In Muradabad a business was killed inside his car, looting incidents in Kanpur are some other prominent crime stories.
