'Why the Delay?' After Rafale Ruckus in House, Oppn Plans to Corner Govt on Women's Reservation Bill
Eleven women MPs and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have given a notice in the Rajya Sabha over the issue.

New Delhi: A day after the Rafale deal rocked the Lok Sabha, the Opposition plans to corner the government on the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha and seek answers on the delay in passing the bill.

Eleven women MPs and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have given a notice in the Rajya Sabha over the issue as they seek to "expose the double standards of the government'.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had earlier said his party would happily cooperate with the BJP if they wish to pass the bill in Parliament. He had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the bill must be taken up on priority for passage. “What better way to demonstrate your commitment to the cause of women, than by offering support to the Women’s Reservation Bill,” Gandhi had written.

The Women's Reservation Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha on March 9, 2010, but has been stalled in the Lok Sabha.
