Won't Contest 2019 Lok Sabha Polls, Would Rather Focus on Ram Temple Issue: Uma Bharti
Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti's announcement comes at a time when there is increasing demand from the BJP and its affiliated organisations to deliver on the Ram temple promise.

Bhopal: Days after Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj announced that she will not be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls on health grounds, her cabinet colleague and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti said she won’t contest polls next year and would rather focus on the Ram temple issue.

Earlier in February this year, Bharti had announced that she would be taking a three-year hiatus from active politics over health issues.

“I would remain in politics all through my life but won’t contest the Lok Sabha polls next year,” Bharti said on Tuesday.

Her announcement comes at a time when there is increasing demand from the BJP and its affiliated organisations to deliver on the Ram temple promise.

Currently, Bharti is an MP from Jhansi in UP.

The firebrand BJP leader affirmed the struggle for construction of Ram temple.

The BJP would win the Assembly poll in Madhya Pradesh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan would become Chief Minister for the fourth time, she opined.

Despite being at odds with CM Shivraj, Bharti was named among party’s star campaigners in the just concluded election campaign in MP.

Bharti was among the prominent faces who had actively participated in Ram Janmbhoomi andolan in 1990s.

Last week the Jhansi MP had appreciated the initiative taken by Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackrey who had reached Ayodhya in UP and she had also called the SP, BSP, Akali Dal and other parties for coming forward for the construction of Ram temple. “BJP does not have a patent on lord Ram. He is for all,” she had stated.

Bharti, a firebrand Hindutva icon, is credited with the BJP’s landslide win in Madhya Pradesh in 2003 which ended the Congress’ ten year rule.
