Ten years after Hurricane Katrina, Google adds weather trackers, safety advice and more features to its search results.
With the US hurricane season about to start, Google has rolled out a number of new features on its search database. Now, when users ask for information about storms in their area, Google will provide a proximity-based weather tracker, forecast, details about the storm itself and safety tips.
These tips include: charging your phone in case of a power outage, how to protect yourself from flying debris and what to pack in an emergency kit.
Google has been working on weather forecasts and Public Alerts since Hurricane Katrina hit ten years ago.
In a blog post, GIS Data Engineer Pete Giencke, posted: "By providing useful, accurate, early-warning information, we want to do our part to help people prepare. More information won’t stop natural disasters from occurring, but it can go a long way to keeping people safe, and in some cases, could even save lives."
