Google Podcast app is the latest product from the company that will see its curtains down from early April for all users. Podcast is popular across different platforms and Google feels it doesn’t need a separate app to keep the business running. So, starting April 2, Google Podcast app will be going away for good. Yes, the Podcast app is shutting down.
But the company is not completely giving up on the podcast segment, in fact, YouTube Music will be the go-to platform for podcasts as the company is ready to invest all its resources in one app rather than having two. Google talked about shutting down the app back in September last year, so it is not like people weren’t given enough time to make the change/switch.
Google is basically asking people to pay for the YouTube Music service if they want access to podcasts from April 2 onwards which is a definite concern for many people who have invested in the platform and kept their data. Google is offering the feature and service switching to its people in the US only, and we’re not sure what happens to other people using the Podcast app out of the region.
Google says, you can either move all your existing podcasts to the YouTube Music app or choose another podcast app altogether, for which you will need to export and then import an OPML file.
Google Podcast Transfer to Other Apps: How It Works
– Go to Google Podcast app
– Click on export subscriptions option
– Tap on Export under Export to YouTube music
– Select Transfer on the YouTube Music app
– Click on Continue
– Now you check the library to see your subscription transferred
The Podcast app is going away this week, and people have the option to switch their content to another till July this year.
