Users can send money to anyone whose phone number they have, regardless of whether the other person has Google Wallet or not.
The Google Commerce team has announced an update to Google Wallet: the ability to send money to anyone in your phone's address book, simply by sending a text.
In another move to take on competitor PayPal, Google has introduced a text message payment option on its Google Wallet app.
Users can send money to anyone whose phone number they have, regardless of whether the other person has Google Wallet or not. The receiver is sent a secure link on their telephone, after clicking on which they simply have to enter their debit card details to receive the payment within minutes.
The update is rolling out on the Google Play and App Store within the next few days.
