New Delhi: With less than a day to go for the Nexus phone launches, Android Police has revealed pre-order dates and prices of the much-awaited phones.
According to Android Police [1,2], the LG-made Nexus 5X and the Huawei-made Nexus 6P will be up for pre-order starting today, the same day they are announced. As far as their prices are concerned, the former will be priced at $379.99 (for 16GB), while the latter will have a price tag of $499.99 for the base model (32 GB).
Google is expected to announce the Nexus 5X in two storage variants - 16 GB and 32 GB - and the Nexus 6P in three - 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB.
The devices are set to be unveiled by Google in San Francisco on September 29, along with the final version of Android Marshmallow (6.0).
The Nexus 5X and 6P will replace the current Nexus 5 and 6 developed by LG and Motorola. Although it is a repeat collaboration between the South Korean manufacturer and Google for a 5.2-inch screen smartphone, it is a first for Chinese brand Huawei, which will introduce a 5.7-inch phablet. For Google, it marks a revival of better relations with China, a country where its services are regularly blocked by authorities.
Each year since 2010, Google has introduced Nexus smartphones free of additional manufacturer interfaces and able to be unlocked in order to customize the phone. Not surprisingly, each new model is also the first to function under the latest Android operating system. This year the new system, Android 6.0, is named Marshmallow.
The new operating system was briefly presented during the Google I/O conference on May 28 in San Francisco. The new version of Android does not introduce any revolutionary functions though several hundred updates allow for better stability and make the phone easier to use.
The idea is to optimize the smartphone's battery life as well as the security parameters of applications and their permission to gain temporary access to the camera, microphone or GPS function.
Google will also inaugurate Android Pay, a mobile payment solution that requires saving credit card details on your phone, along the lines of Apple Pay, as well as including USB Type-C compatibility. As with every new system launch, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be rolled out progressively, depending on each model, over the fall.
Google could also take advantage of the occasion to launch a second generation version of Chromecast, the key that allows content from various mobile devices to be cast on an HD television set. According to the most recent rumors, the key would be able to integrate Spotify and could also manage feeds from social networks.
