Towering more than 15,000 feet above Europe’s sea level, Mont Blanc has highest fatality rate in Europe.
It has been 229 years that the first ascent of 'the monarch of mountains' - Mont Blanc, was made. On August 8, 1786 researchers Michel Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat reached the top of the highest point in the Alps for scientific research armed only with alpenstocks and measuring equipment. Towering more than 15,000 feet above Europe’s sea level, Mont Blanc has highest fatality rate in Europe, yet, thousands of hikers trek the difficult path upon the Alpine towns of Chamonix, Saint-Gervais, and Courmayeur to recreate the iconic expedition.
