Samsung Teases 'Galaxy Ring' Smart Wearable: Here's What It May Be Capable Of
Samsung has finally acknowledged the existence of the Galaxy Ring. Read on to know what it could be capable of doing.

During the concluding segment of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 launch event, the company unveiled a brief teaser of the Galaxy Ring, confirming long-standing rumours about the device’s development at the South Korean tech giant.

It is important to note that Samsung has only released a short teaser about the product, so officially, we can only talk about its appearance at this time. In the teaser video, we can see that it features a set of sensors in a typical ring form factor, similar to the Oura Ring, and has a black finish.

While there is no official information regarding the product’s capabilities, Samsung chose to tease the Galaxy Ring immediately following its segment on improved health tracking and how it aims to create a better experience for users through the Galaxy Health app. That said, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is said to be primarily a health tracking device, and its reveal immediately following a major health segment may not be a coincidence.

Additionally, an official Samsung promo video about its new health tracking features also makes it clear that the Galaxy Ring will be a health-focused device. At the end of the video, the two characters talk about making “life-changing progress” through health choices, and then one of the characters says, “I wonder what will come next,” as they gaze at the horizon with a ring-like sun shining through. This suggests that the Galaxy Ring will be a health-centric device, unlike the McClear Smart Ring we reported on last year, which can be used to make payments on the go.

Plus, recent reports also say that Samsung might include advanced health tracking features, like the ability to take EKG readings, and blood oxygen measurements via a photoplethysmography sensor.

We don’t know when the Galaxy Ring will be released, what features it will have, or how much it will cost. But considering that Samsung has reportedly been developing it since mid-2023 (via The Elec), it could still be a while off. However, Samsung holds two major events each year—one for its S series smartphones and another for its Galaxy Watches and foldable Z series phones—So it’s possible we’ll hear more about the ring later this year, alongside the company’s foldables.
