Indian-origin teenager, Agastya Goel bagged his second gold medal at the recently concluded International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). Agastya, the son of Stanford University professor Ashish Goel, scored 438.97 out of 600 to win the gold medal in the programming competition. With an incredible 600 out of 600, China’s Kangyang Zhou secured the top spot.

The 36th IOI was held in Egypt this year from September 1 to September 8.

In what is often regarded as the world’s most difficult programming competition for high school students, Agastya finished at the fourth spot overall. Top young brains from across the globe come together for this esteemed event to demonstrate their computational thinking and problem-solving abilities.

This year’s International Olympiad in Informatics saw 34 students win gold medals, including Kshitij Sodani of India, who finished in the 21st spot.

Agastya’s success was celebrated on social media, where one X user drew a comparison between him and his father, Ashish Goel, who had a successful career with businesses like Twitter and Stripe after topping the IIT-JEE entrance exam in 1990.

A user praised the father-son duo stating, “In the realm of intellect, where the prodigious Agastya Goel claims his second IOI gold, he mirrors his father’s unparalleled brilliance. Ashish Goel’s IIT triumph echoes through time. Truly, the apple does not fall far from the tree.”

“What a talented father-son duo!”, said another.

A user stated, “I’m wondering what will be the father-son conversations at home and in the car on a daily basis! would pay for those vlogs.”
