Increasingly, individuals are falling victim to fraudulent practices perpetrated by vendors on e-commerce platforms. Recently, he encountered such deceit when he eagerly anticipated the arrival of a Nothing Phone (2a) he had ordered, only to receive an entirely disparate product. Under the username @MalikTuyyab on ‘X’, this Delhi resident had paid. 20,808 on Flipkart for the aforementioned phone. Much to his dismay, the package delivered to him five days later contained a phone from a brand known as ‘iKall’.
Venting his frustration on social media, Malik lamented the lack of assistance from Flipkart despite initiating a refund process. Through a series of tweets on X, he recounted his futile attempts to rectify the erroneous transaction, “I’ve been trying to return/replace the product since yesterday, but I’ve received no support from your end,” he began.
Hey @Flipkart / @flipkartsupport, I ordered a Nothing Phone 2a (@nothing), but I received the wrong product, specifically some ikall brand phone.I’ve been trying to return/replace the product since yesterday, but I’ve received no support from your end.(1/n) pic.twitter.com/YXpTGiQzAZ

His initial plea to return the ‘iKall’ device, valued at approximately Rs. 4,500, compared to the hefty sum of Rs. 20,000 paid for the Nothing Phone, was dismissed on ‘whimsical’ grounds. A screenshot shared by Malik depicted Flipkart’s response, citing that his return request couldn’t be accommodated as the “courier service provider has confirmed delivery of the order with the product being intact.”

Upon making a second distinct request via email, the company demanded Malik furnish appropriate images with a 24-hour’ deadline, providing precise specifications. “Kindly note that the return request may be cancelled if we do not receive the images within the next 24 hours,” the email stipulated. However, Malik encountered difficulties in uploading the requisite images requested by Flipkart.
“All this is happening to me when I’m having the unboxing video of the product,” voiced the disgruntled customer, also sharing the unboxing footage. The video showcased how, even after OTP-based delivery, he had the delivery executive unbox the package, revealing the receipt of the ‘iKall’ device.
Also for the information, it was not an Open Box Delivery. It was just an OTP- based delivery.Even then, I opened the product in the presence of the delivery guy. And I have the video recording of the unboxing. pic.twitter.com/d7Ieeu2YcT

An update later revealed that Flipkart had also turned down his second replacement request on identical grounds.
Subsequently, the customer lodged a third replacement request with Flipkart and lodged a complaint with the National Consumer Helpline. “It’s unfortunate that such restrictive return policies push consumers towards offline markets, contradicting the advancements of the modern internet era,” he remarked.
