In the era of social media, it is pretty easy to get fame as an influencer and content creator. Some experience their 10-minutes of fame, while others get to stick around for a while, becoming perpetual content creators. Social media, however, can be a harsh place to survive with trolls and detractors trying to demotivate you every second. A video has been doing the rounds recently where an Asian mother and daughter pull off a dancing gig together. The unique selling point of the video is that the mother at 39 years old, and the daughter at 19 years old, look almost the same age as the mother who has maintained her youthful look. Viewers are not able to wrap their heads around the fact that a 39-year old can look so young. The video is full of very inappropriate comments which would make for a very uncomfortable read.
In the viral video, two women are seen in the kitchen. One is lip-syncing to a song with a spatula in her hand while the other is cooking. Eventually, the woman who is cooking joins the other woman. Surprisingly, it is then revealed that the second woman is actually the mother of the other woman, who is 19-years-old. Both the women then groove to the song.
In an ideal case, the video should have been praised and appreciated as a sporting attempt by the mother and daughter duo but the comments are full of people objectifying the mother with extremely inappropriate comments. Not just that, the comments are also racist against Asians as many have brought up the popular joke that all Asians look the same and cannot be distinguished from one another. Similarly, many have said that they are unable to distinguish between the two women as they look the same.
