As the education system is trying to make the curriculum more comprehensive, new measures are being taken to lessen the burden on the students’ homework. When a student is unable to do their homework, they turn to their parents for help. But sometimes these questions are so complex that even parents are not able to help their children. But for a mother, it became a reality after she had to solve her 7-year-old daughter’s math problem. It was found that it took her more than 60 minutes to understand the question. This has sparked criticism over the education system for burdening students with questions that can’t be answered even by parents.
The picture of the difficult math question was uploaded on social media by Unilad. The question read, “There were 49 dogs signed up to compete in the dog show. There were 36 more small dogs than large dogs signed up to compete. How many small dogs are signed up to compete?” The second-grade student was unable to answer it and went to her mother for the solution. Her mother was equally perplexed after trying to solve the question.
The post that included the math question was captioned, “So it’s not just me who is confused. A second grader had to deal with a challenging assignment and didn’t know how to solve it, and their mom, Angie Warner, struggled to get to grips with the task too, so she posted the math problem online. Angie turned to the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Privately Facebook page, and everyone who saw her post was equally baffled by the math question. Swipe to see the math problem. Can you work it out?”

After the post was uploaded on Instagram, it went viral and people expressed themselves in the comment section. One of the users wrote, “The average math skill here is appalling. So many people are so confidentially incorrect. The question is completely incorrect. You can’t have 0.5 of a dog!!” Another commented, “I successfully got two PhDs in my office to argue about this. Thank you.”
