Kathmandu: At least six persons, including an elderly woman and two children, have been killed and as many injured in two separate landslides triggered by torrential rains in Nuwakot district of central Nepal, officials said on Friday.

The landslides caused by heavy overnight rain also swept away six houses. Five people were killed and six others injured in a landslide triggered by last night's incessant rains at Gorsyang Village Development Committee, Home Ministry officials said.

The identity of all the deceased persons has been ascertained and include two children aged 9 and 11, police said.

Of the six injured, two persons are in critical condition and have been airlifted to capital Kathmandu for treatment.

In another incident, an 80-year-old woman was killed at Samari village of Nuwakot district, 150 kilometres west of Kathmandu.

A police team has reached the site and five people were rescued alive. Scores of people die every year from flooding and

landslides during the monsoon season in Nepal.

Over 30 people, including women, were killed and several others went missing after landslides caused by continuous rainfall buried houses across Nepal in June this year. Nepal is still recovering after two major quakes that struck the Himalayan nation on April 25 this year killed nearly 9,000 people and left a trail of destruction.
