As part of the station upgrade project, about 250 high-resolution CCTV security cameras with facial recognition systems will be installed at the Chandigarh railway station.
According to The Tribune, the Panchkula and Chandigarh sides of the station would each have six baggage scanners and an equal number of door-frame metal detectors installed.
In addition, depending on the coverage and need on both sides of the railway station, 20 pan, tilt, and zoom cameras, 70 dome cameras, and 140 bullet cameras will be installed. A railway official stated that these cameras would have a 30-day memory, as per reports.
“This will help keep a check on the theft of passengers’ belongings and pick-pocketing. At present, thieves and potential offenders are aware of all vulnerable areas and situations,” Amrinderjit Singh, SHO, RPF, Chandigarh, said as quoted by The Tribune. He stated that there had been a significant increase in surveillance and that an elaborate control room on the first floor would be used to monitor activity.
To prevent any malicious activity or policy violations by external means, this upcoming security system will also include an intrusion detection system, reports add.
