Delhi Metro To Launch Virtual Smart Cards For Seamless Commutes
The virtual card will act just like the physical smart card available at metro counters but will be stored on your smartphone.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is rolling out an exciting new feature that lets commuters use their smartphones as virtual smart cards.

This upgrade, available through the DMRC Momentum 2.0 app, will be accessible on popular platforms like WhatsApp, Paytm, Amazon Pay, and One Delhi.

In a recent interview with PTI, DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar revealed that the new virtual smart cards will include a QR code for stored value. This means you can now skip the physical smart cards and manage your metro trips directly from your phone.

“We’re introducing a QR for stored value. It’s like a card, but it won’t be limited to just one journey. Plus, it’ll cut down on the number of paper prints,” Kumar explained, as quoted by Financial Express.

How Will Virtual Smart Cards Work?

The virtual smart card will work just like the physical ones you can buy at metro ticket counters, but now it’ll be stored on your phone. Commuters can top up their QR wallet using the DMRC app and use the stored value to generate QR codes for travel.

This system means you won’t need to buy new physical or virtual QR tickets every time you travel, making it super convenient for regular metro users.

The virtual smart card aims to reduce the dependency on physical tickets, offering a smoother and more user-friendly option.

Passengers will also have the choice to select the Delhi Metro QR ticket on Amazon Pay, choose their destination, make the payment, and instantly receive their mobile QR ticket.
