Ever since electrification started taking over in India, top car manufacturers tried everything to contribute to the segment. Either by transforming their existing lineups into EVs or launching new ones, every single move has been taken by the brands to secure top places in this vertical. When the market was dominated by electric SUVs and Sedans, MG came up with a master plan and launched one of the value-for-money products in the form of Comet.
The micro e-SUV was launched at the starting price of Rs 7.98 Lakh (ex-showroom). Later, the company slashed the price range, allowing interested customers to purchase the vehicle only at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The strategy was adopted to attract more customers towards the EV as they say modern-day problems require modern-day solutions.
Initially, our idea about the vehicle was quite dicey as we were not sure if the EV could serve its purpose in daily life or not. After testing it for almost a few weeks, covering an overall distance of a good 700 km to 800 km, our perspective somehow is completely changed now. It made us believe in a quote that says a small packet can do a big blast.
In this detailed article, we will share how practical the EV Comet is, and whether investing a decent amount in is worth it or not.
Design
Talking about style and design first, It’s the area that the company has mastered. Equipped with all LED headlight setups, LED DRLs, and illuminated MG badging at the front, complimented by a connected DRL strip, undoubtely makes it a proper head-turner on the road. We are not even sure, how many times we received compliments for this futuristic EV. From ‘Kitne Ki Hai’ to ‘Bhai Kya Cute Car Hai’ we were bombarded with such flattering remark by passersby.
It’s worth mentioning that the MG Comet comes with a sleek and modern design, making it a unique yet stylish vehicle for urban transportation. With its compact size, it is easy to maneuver in tight spots, offering comfortable rides through busy cities.
Interior
The light grey and white colors combination perfectly blend with each other, providing a premium feel from inside. Despite having a compact size, the smartly managed Comet feels surprisingly spacious, all credit goes to the platform BICO—’Big Inside, Compact Outside.
In terms of seating arrangement, it has been designed in such a manner that allows five occupants to sit comfortably. However, the company claims it a four-seater.
Features
Some of the notable features deserve special appreciation. The list includes electric window operation buttons, a smooth 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, supported by all car connect technology including wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-Volt charging port, and the list goes on. The car also supports 100+ voice commands and offers keyless seamless entry.
Safety
As far as safety is concerned, the MG Comet EV comes with dual airbags at the front, ABS+EBD, a rear parking sensor with dynamic guidelines, 3-point Seat Belts, speed alert, and whatnot. It has been claimed by the British carmaker that the EV has been made using high high-strength body, featuring 17 hot stamping panels.
To ensure its toughness, the car has undergone an ordeal and cleared 39 stringent tests
Battery and Power
Under the hood, the micro-SUV is powered by a 17.3kWh battery setup, unleashing the max power of 41.42bhp and a peak torque of 110Nm. The unit is capable of providing a maximum range of around 230 km on a single charge.
However, in the real world, customers can expect a maximum range of around 180 km to 190 km. It takes 6 to 7 hours to make the battery level reach 100 percent, using the onboard 3.3kW charger.
Here’s What We Feel
The MG Comet EV is completely a practical car, and offers a comfortable driving experience in metro cities. The vehicle deserves a bonus point for its design and size as it can easily fit in the tight parking lot, and doesn’t require much space.
We feel the micro e-SUV is worth considering for those who are looking for a compact EV for urban transportation solutions.
