New Delhi: The 9th Delhi Auto Expo which starts on the 9th of January will see a number of new cars, however, the top highlight is Ratan Tatas “people’s car” costing Rs one lakh.
As many as 41 vehicle manufacturers with over 1900 auto component and accessory makers will show off their wares. While Toyota and Ford are staying other global makers like Suzuki, Honda and Volkswagen will unveil their compact cars. Suzuki will put out the “Splash”, expected to hit the Indian roads in 2008. Volkswagon's new mini car, “Up!” will also get an audience while Honda will showcase the compact 'Jazz' concept.
However, the focus will be on Ratan Tata's pride and joy- the Rupee one lakh car. While the car will be unveiled at the expo, the commercial launch is only around the middle of 2008. Tata Motors will also display a range of new passenger vehicles, as well as buses made under its joint venture with Brazil's Marcopolo of Brazil. Fiat will display the 'Grande Punto' and it’s “sedan”, the ‘Linea'.
The event this time is expected to be one of the biggest to date both in terms of area and participation and expects over 1 million visitors. Skoda board members, the senior Volkswagen management team, top Fiat and Yamaha executives are also expected to be present at the Expo.
