As Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday hinted towards considering a withdrawal on hijab ban in the state, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that the government will take a decision after looking into the matter deeply.
“We have not made any orders regarding hijab. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself said that even if it is done, we will check it. The government will take a decision after looking into it deeply,” G Parameshwara was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Parameshwara’s statement came after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former Telangana Chief Minister KCR’s son, KT Rama Rao, slammed the Congress-led Karnataka government over not lifting the ban on hijab in the state even months after coming to power.
“They have not lifted the ban on hijab yet and the Chief Minister has said that they are thinking about it. People are seeing the behaviour of Congress – what they say before coming to power and how they change after getting power,” KTR said.
CM Siddaramaiah proposes reversal of Hijab ban
Bringing in the debate on the hijab ban in Karnataka again, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced that his government would lift the ban on hijab imposed by the previous BJP government in the state.
“We will take back that decision, there is no Hijab ban now. Women can go out wearing hijab. I have told the officials to take back the order previous government order. Dressing and eating food is our choice, why should I object? Wear whatever dress you want, eat whatever you want, why should I care. We should not do politics to get votes, we don’t do that.”
However, he later clarified his statement saying, “We haven’t done it (revoking Hijab ban) yet. Someone asked me a question on lifting Hijab ban. I replied that the government is considering revoking it.” Siddaramaiah further said that the decision will be taken after discussing it at the government level.
