In the most recent episode of popular dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 11, emotions ran high as Malaika Arora found herself overwhelmed with tears, remembering about her humble childhood home and family. The episode saw Malaika, alongside filmmaker Farah Khan and actor Arshad Warsi, reflecting on the challenges she faced during her early days in the Hindi film industry. During Sangeeta Phogat’s performance, the trio couldn’t help but be transported back to their own struggles. Partnering with choreographer Bharat Ghare, dancer Sangeeta Phogat delivered an emotional performance to the tune of Jo Bheji Thi Duaa, from the 2012 film Shanghai.
The act not only promised visual appeal but also carried a profound message. Focused on the hardships of construction workers who tirelessly build homes for others, yet find themselves without a home, the performance struck a chord.
Touched by the presentation, Judge Malaika Arora commended, “The concept was amazing, I love it. I’m sure many people would have various interpretations of this concept, but the way you presented it was such a beautiful interpretation.” She went on to praise Sangeeta, noting her natural acting abilities. Malaika envisioned a potential acting career for Sangeeta, saying, “You are a natural actress. There’s an actress within you. The way you started with your dialogue, the way you were cleaning your hands on your dress, those small details – you are a born actress. I don’t think you realise it, but, during this Jhalak journey, an actress has emerged within you. I believe, if a film is ever made, you should be the one to act. You are a brilliant actress. You dance, you emote, you act – it’s amazing.”
As they delved into memories of their childhood homes, Malaika, visibly moved, shared her own experiences. “We used to live in a rented house. We didn’t have our own house. I mean, as far back as I can remember, we lived in a rented house. We often joke and say that we lived in a matchbox during our childhood,” she recalled. “I remember how small the house was. If we walked around, it seemed like someone might get hurt. It was very, very difficult. So obviously, the first thing I wanted to do when I could afford it, after saving up a bit of money, was to buy a house. And I wanted to tell my mom about it.”
Arshad Warsi expressed admiration for Malaika and Farah, acknowledging their hard work that led them to their current positions. “This is why I love Malaika and Farah,” the actor said.
The episode also marked the elimination of Glenn Saldanha, bringing the show closer to its finale with the Top 10 contestants remaining. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11 airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 p.m. as well as on OTT platform.
