At a point in Bollywood, numerous films featuring superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rajesh Khanna and Feroz Khan flooded the theatres, but a majority failed to make a mark at the box office. Subsequently, the era of Govinda, Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan emerged, characterised by hit films, although not every release enjoyed blockbuster success. However, one Bollywood luminary stands out for achieving a remarkable feat – none other than Dharmendra.

Dharmendra, a Bollywood icon, experienced a golden period in 1987 when an astonishing 12 films hit the theatres consecutively, marking a pinnacle in his career. Among these releases were Insaniyat Ke Dushman, Loha, Hukumat, Aag Hi Aag, Mera Karam Mera Dharam, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Mard Ki Zabaan, Insaf Ki Pukar, Dadagiri, Jaan Hatheli Pe, Mit Jayenge Mitane Waale and Superman.

In this prolific year, Dharmendra achieved an unparalleled feat by delivering seven consecutive hits out of the 12 releases. The movies that contributed to this exceptional success streak were Insaniyat Ke Dushman, Loha, Hukumat, Aag Hi Aag, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Mard Ki Zabaan, Jaan Hatheli Pe and Dadagiri.

Dharmendra’s action-packed drama film Hukumat emerged as a record-breaking blockbuster in 1987. Directed by Anil Sharma, the movie featured Dharmendra and Rati Agnihotri in lead roles, with supporting performances by Swapna and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. The film’s success even led to a Tamil remake titled Puthiya Vaanam.

Dharmendra, with a prolific career spanning over six decades, has contributed to over 300 films, earning him the distinction of being one of the most successful actors in Hindi cinema history.

While his cinematic appearances have become less frequent, Dharmendra was last seen in the sci-fi drama film Love Nation, directed by Basith Ahmed Khan. The film also starred Adeeb and Maviya in pivotal roles.

As Dharmendra continues to hold a revered place in the hearts of Bollywood enthusiasts, his remarkable achievement of seven consecutive hits in a single year remains an unparalleled record in the industry.
