New Delhi: The markets ended in red near its day's low on the last day of the week.
All the BSE sectoral indices ended in red. Heavy selling pressure was seen in scrips from cement, telecom, capital goods, pharma and metal space. Realty and financial sector stocks were also down. Sensex slipped below the 14,600 levels.
The Sensex closed down 113.19 points or 0.77 per cent at 14538.9, and the Nifty was down 36 points or 0.85 per cent at 4187.4.
About 605 shares have advanced, 2019 shares declined, and 40 shares are unchanged.
The BSE auto index was down 0.66 per cent or 38.43 points at 5750.52. Hind Motors, Escorts, Cummins, Asahi India and Sundram plunged.
The BSE bankex was down 0.45 per cent or 34.52 points at 7560.31. Bank of India, Canara Bank, PNB, Andhra Bank and Kotak Mahindra ended negative.
The BSE cpital goods index tumbled 1.36 per cent or 136.83 points at 9939.61. Gammon India, Bharat Elec, Thermax, BEML and Alstom Projects tumbled.
The BSE FMCG ended down 0.53 per cent or 10.06 points at 1901.17. United Spirits, Shaw Wallace, Tata Tea, Nirma and Dabur India ended in red.
The BSE healthcare index was closed down 1.49 per cent or 57.94 points at 3842.94. Biocon, Apollo Hospital, Lupin, Sterling Bio and FDC fell.
The BSE IT index was down 0.76 per cent or 41.76 points at 5479.15. Mphasis, Moser Baer, Satyam, Hexaware Tech and i-flex Solution declined.
The BSE metal index was ended down 1.74 per cent or 161.05 points at 9114.05. Sterlite Ind, Jindal Steel, JSW Steel, Sesa Goa and JindalStainless melted down.
The BSE oil & gas index closed down 0.84 per cent or 56.49 points at 6631.51. Reliance Natura, Petronet LNG, HPCL, MRPL and Chennai Petro dropped.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 9163.39 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 32219.46 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4518.14 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 45,900.99 crore.
