Mumbai: It was a vey good trading session for the markets as they ended the day with phenomenal gains. The frontline indices closed with a gain of nearly 3 per cent, sensex was upover 400 points and the Nifty up over 100 points.
Sensex closed above 14,800 mark and Nifty around 4,300 levels. The broader markets also participated in the up trend tracking the benchmark indices giving markets an excellent breadth.
The rally has come on the back of strong Asian cues and the Dow ended higher on Friday. All the BSE sector indices ended in green.
Banking and realty stocks were among the top gainers followed by metal, capital goods and oil & gas stocks.
ICICI Bank and SBI were the star performers up over 6 per cent.
Top gainers on the indices are ICICI Bank, SBI, Maruti Udyog, Hindalco Reliance Energy and Zee Entertainment.
Sensex was up 417.51 points or 2.89 per cent at 14842.38, and the Nifty up 112.45 points or 2.68 per cent at 4302.60.
About 2194 shares have advanced, 764 shares declined, and 56 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,360.66 up 170 points or 2.8 per cent. The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,725.52 up 203 points or 2.7 per cent.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 3.6 per cent at 13,080.02. Bharat Bijlee, Areva T&D, Alstom Projects, Crompton Greave, ABB, Greaves Cotton closed higher.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 2 per cent at 3,487.33. Divis Labs, Aurobindo Pharm, Lupin, Nicholas Pirama, Panacea Biotech, Orchid Chemical closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed closed at 4,682.97 up 2.5 per cent. TVS Motor, Maruti Udyog, Escorts, Punj Tractors, Tata Motors ended in the green.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 10,637.64 up 3.5 per cent. Shree Precoated, JSW Steel, Hindalco, Sterlite Ind, Tata Steel advanced.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 2 per cent at 1,912.20 HUL, Dabur India, ITC, Marico, Godrej Consumer, Bata India closed higher.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,725.80 up 3 per cent. GAIL, Reliance, Essar Oil, Reliance Natura, Reliance Petro, Petronet LNG ended in green.
The BSE IT Index lost 1.5 per cent at 4,473.39. Patni Computer, HCL Tech, Financial Tech, I-Flex Solution, Wipro closed higher.
The BSE Bankex was up 4.6 per cent at 7,654.98. SBI, Allahabad Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, Kotak Mahindra ended higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8882.32 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 52748.00 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3998.05 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 65628.37 crore.
