New Delhi: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex recovered by over 205 points in early trade on Monday on fresh buying by funds as well as investors in tandem with firming global trends.
The BSE-30 share index, Sensex, which had lost over 500 points last week, was up by 205.10 points at 14,268.91 in the first five minutes of the trade, following a significant rise in heavy-weight stocks buying.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's index Nifty regained 4,200 points mark to quote 60.20 points higher at 4,205.20. Stock brokers said firming global stock markets mainly influenced the trading sentiments triggering all-round buying.
They said fall in inflation to 4.85 per cent for the week ended May 26 too acted as a positive factor. Major supporters to the Sensex were Reliance Industries,
Reliance Communications, Reliance Capital, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, HDFC Ltd, ONGC and ICICI Bank.
Top gainers on the Sensex were ITC up 3.12 per cent, HDFC up 2.69 per cent and Hindalco up 2.57 per cent
Top losers on the Sensex are Grasim down 1.66 per cent and Bharti Airtel down 0.26 per cent
Top gainers on the Nifty are HPCL up 4.14 per cent and GAIL up 3.19 per cent
Top losers on the Nifty are Grasim down 1.52 per cent, Zee Entertain down 0.68 per cent and Maruti Udyog down 0.43 per cent.
BSE Midcap and smallcap indices are inline with frontline index. BSE Midcap is up 0.7 per cent and the smallcap index is up 1 per cent.
Among the midcap gainers are Ansal Properties up 5.98 per cent, Asahi India up 4.92 per cent, BL Kashyap up 4.89 per cent, Carborundum up 4.48 per cent and Godrej Ind up 4.25 per cent.
DLF IPO has opened today and its QIB portion subscribed 1.05 times; overall 0.65 times and most of the bids have come at the higher level of the band of Rs 550.
