Mumbai: IIMs get tough on CAT applicants. Now it's crucial to fill the CAT form without a single error, major or minor. That’s the way the IIMs like it. Till last year, they ensured students corrected their errors in the application form.

"When you look at what happened last year they put up this list on the 1st or 2nd October and they gave students time lets say 5 or 6 to come down to the respective IIM that they have sent their application form to and resolve the issue. Sometimes when an entire form was wrong they have taken Rs 1100 and given you a new form and at least you have been allowed to write the cat exam,” says Arks Srinivas, Director, T.I.M.E. Mumbai

This year a rejection list has been posted on catiim.in but it offers no information about how these errors can be corrected. IIMs say they are not obliged to let students correct their forms as the cat bulletin mention that no error will be entertained. IIMs also say such corrections delay the examination process.

This means about 3 percent of CAT applicants will not write the exam this year. For some it could mean a loss of an academic year. Not just IIMs, they will also be disqualified for admission to a hundred B-schools that use CAT scores as an admission criterion.
