'Exiled' MF Husain to return to India
Husain says he is not in exile and is living in UAE out of choice. The artist is planning on visiting India next week.

New Delhi: He's not new to controversy, but the latest one that he was embroiled in had resulted in famous artist M F Husain leaving the country and living in Dubai for nearly one year.

However, a defiant Husain said that he had not been sent into exile by the Government of India and was in fact living in UAE out of choice. The artist is planning on visiting India next week.

"India is my motherland. Nobody is stopping me from visiting my country," he was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

"I have been living abroad for the last 50 years. In the 80s, I worked in New York. Prior to that I was working in London, Paris etc. I love to work at different places," he said adding no other meaning should be attached to his staying in Dubai.

Husain has been facing obscenity charges back home and some of his paintings have drawn the ire of religious groups, who have accused him of hurting their sentiments.

The image of a naked Godess Durga created ripples of indignation amongst the Hindu community - both in India and in London, where the artist held an exhibition at the Asia House of London.

This isn't the first time the painter has painted Hindu gods and goddesses in sexual poses.

Husain was embroiled in another controversy soon after over the naked depiction of Mother India in a painting. The painting drew protest from various fundamentalist groups.
