Rupee ends at 66.55 against the US dollar
The rupee breached the 68-mark on Wednesday to close at an all-time low of 68.72 against the US dollar.

Mumbai: The rupee on Thursday closed at 66.55 vs US dollar, posted its biggest single-day gain since mid-January 1998 as the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) latest move to shore up the currency by providing dollars to oil firms directly and the relatively aggressive internvention helped.

The rupee ended 225 paise or 3.27 per cent up from the close on Wednesday. The central bank was spotted selling the greenback intermittently during the day, several dealers told Reuters.

The rupee had on Wednesday breached the 68-mark to close at an all-time low of 68.72 against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex rose more than 2 per cent ending the day at ends at 18,401.04, up 404.89 points as blue chip shares including HDFC surged tracking a rebound in the rupee from a record low in the previous session, after the central bank's move to provide dollars directly to oil companies.
