Renowned Tamil producer VA Durai, known for bankrolling several hit films, including Baba, Naaikutti, and Ennaama Kannu, Gajendra breathed his last on Monday, October 2 late at night. The producer succumbed to health issues at the age of 59. Earlier this year, the producer shared a video in which he revealed that he was suffering from various health issues and that he was being treated for his illness. He also noted that the director Muthuraman helped him with his treatment.
As per the reports, Producer Durai, not too long ago, had to get a leg amputated as his health condition worsened. He was suffering from diabetes. It was after the surgery that the producer lost a lot of weight and became very weak. Reports also circulated that the producer couldn’t even bear the expenses. Actors like Suriya and Rajinikanth helped him financially. Despite the treatment, no improvement was witnessed in his health and last night, at 9 pm, he passed away.
Earlier, when VA Durai’s friend recently shared a video on social media and sought help for his medical treatment, Rajinikanth reportedly spoke to the producer over a phone call. He not only promised to aid with his medical treatment but also met him after shooting for his film Jailer.
It is believed that Rajinikanth and Durai shared a close bond as Thalaiva’s Baba was backed by the producer. The film became the biggest blockbuster of the year and led the actor to become a household name.
Besides Rajinikanth, it was reported that Suriya also came out to help the producer soon after he was told about the renowned producer’s condition. He reportedly gave Durai Rs 2 lakh. Suriya portrayed the role of a conman Sakthi in the film Pithamagan which was produced by the late producer. VA Durai got married twice. With his first wife, he had two daughters while his second wife gave birth to one daughter.
