Abdul Samad Becomes 1st J&K Batter To Score Multiple Centuries In A Ranji Trophy Match
Samad hammered 127 runs from 117 balls in the first inning of the ongoing Elite Group A match against Odisha and remained unbeaten on 108 runs in the second on Monday.

Sunrisers Hyderabad star Abdul Samad entered his name in history books on Monday (October 21) by becoming the first batter from Jammu & Kashmir to score multiple centuries in a Ranji Trophy match. The 22-year-old right-handed batter achieved the feat during Jammu & Kashmir’s ongoing Elite Group A match against Odisha at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

Samad scored 127 runs from 117 balls in the first inning and remained unbeaten on 108 runs from as many deliveries in the second. He hammered six fours and nine sixes during the first day’s play and smacked five fours and as many as half a dozen maximums in the second inning.

Thanks to his super show with the bat, J&K managed to declare its second inning for 270 runs and set up a target of 269 runs for Odisha to chase down and win the match.

By smashing six sixes during his stay at the crease in the second innings, Samad also moved to No. 1 position in the list of batters with most sixes in the premier domestic competition’s history for Jammu & Kashmir. In just 25 matches, he has 78 sixes to his name. Shubham Khajuria is second on the list with 73 maximums in 65 matches.

With his attacking knock in the second match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, Samad has also sent a timely reminder of his capabilities to Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the end of the retention deadline.

The 2024 IPL losing finalists retained Samad ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore and could once again retain him. He played in all 16 matches of IPL 2024 for them and scored 182 runs with a strike rate of 168.51.

Overall, Samad, who made his IPL debut in 2021, has 577 runs to his name in 50 matches, and in addition to that, he also picked up two wickets for the franchise.

According to reports, SRH is all set to retain South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klassen, Australian pacer Pat Cummins, batter Travis Head, India’s Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Kumar Reddy ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
