'Better than the Bowler Bashing in IPL': Ex-IND Cricketer Suggests T20 World Cup 2024 Gives More 'Fascinating Contests'
Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested that the contests in the T20 World Cup might be better than the typical batting-dominated games we are used to in IPL 2024.

The ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 has been a stark contrast to what cricket fans have been used to with regard to the balance between bat and ball when the viewers have been used to massive scores after the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2024.

The former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar also shared his thoughts in his column with the Hindustan Times where he suggested that while there will be concerns with the low-scoring games in the United States of America, there definitely is a balance and it comes down to a choice of what is the better extreme for the viewers.

From watching batters score 200+ totals with ease to now seeing batters struggle to get past the 100-run mark, there is certainly a concern as to whether the current tracks in the USA might be what is needed to help promote the game in the country.

Manjrekar believes that the low-scoring contests that we see in the ongoing T20 World Cup are more interesting than the typical high-scoring games that have been prevalent in most T20 leagues.

“I might not be the most accurate representation of T20 fans, or cricket fans in general, but I have found the matches so far quite fascinating and more interesting than the bowler bashing that goes on in most T20 leagues,” said the former Indian cricketer.

The former Indian cricketer turned commentator also credited India’s wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant for the way he has been able to thrive despite the unfavourable conditions. He is currently India’s highest run-scorer in the tournament with two 30+ scores in the three games he has played in New York. He also scored the only fifty against Bangladesh in the warm-up game prior to the tournament.

He wrote, “I have huge respect for Pant. In a relatively short Test career, he may have already played three all-time great Indian innings. This rare ability he possesses has got Pant to be India’s best batter on all three outings on this NY pitch”.

The Indian team have already secured their spot in the Super-8s with a win over the USA yesterday and will hope to make it four in four with a win over Canada in their final group-stage fixture.
