'If I Sat, I Got Trolled': KL Rahul Opens Up About Social Media Abuse
Star India batter KL Rahul, who will play for India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024, has opened up about receiving online trolling and hate on social media.

KL Rahul, who last played for India during the second ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka in Colombo last month, will be back in action on Thursday (September 5). The 32-year-old right-handed batter will play for Shubman Gill-led India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024 match against Abhimanyu Easwaran’s India B at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The star batter would like to come up with a big show and present a case for selection in the Indian team for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which starts on September 19 in Chennai.

Ahead of the Duleep Trophy 2024 matches, Rahul recently opened up about handling social media trolls. The right-handed batter was heavily criticised after India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the ODI World Cup final last year. He was one of the top-performing batters for India during the 10-team tournament played entirely in India, but some fans and experts were not satisfied with his scoring rate in the final against Australia.

He was the top scorer for India in the match played on November 19, 2023, at Narendra Modi Stadium, but to score 66 runs, he faced 107 balls and was only able to smash one boundary.

The wicketkeeper-batter recently reminisced about facing social media trolls during a chat on Nikhil Kamath’s YouTube channel alongside Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon and singer Badshah.

He was asked to share “how he deals with trolling," to which he replied by saying that he was not bothered by negative comments in the early phase of his career but admitted that things had become worse “a couple of years ago."

“I used to be good with (handling) trolling. I did not care, but I feel I was much younger back then. And then, a couple of years back, I was exposed to a lot of trolling. If I sat, I got trolled; if I stood, I got trolled," Rahul said.

Questions were, once again, raised about Rahul’s strike rate during the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Lucknow Super Giants captain, however, was among the top ten run scorers of the tournament. He featured in 14 games and amassed a total of 520 runs at a strike rate of 136.12.
