IND vs BAN: Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan Under Observation for Finger Injury; Doubtful for Kanpur Test : Report

Bangladesh veteran, Shakib Al Hasan could be a doubt for the upcoming Test against India in Kanpur. The all-rounder remains under observation by the team management with a possible discomfort which could rule be out of action.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the all-rounder was hit on the finger while batting against the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, for which he had to receive treatment.

“We are heading to Kanpur tomorrow (Tuesday) and today is a day off. We will have two sessions afterwards and we will judge after that (regarding Shakib’s availability in the second Test) and we don’t want to make a decision yet,” said Hannan Sarkar, a member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

According to Sarkar, Shakib has been under observation and the call regarding his selection will only be taken after the feedback from the team’s physio.

“These two days, the physio has kept him under observation. When we get back to the ground, we will get the physio’s feedback. We have to think before picking Shakib for the next match and there is time before the next match. We will see what condition he is in,” he added.

The selector also clarified that the physio had cleared the veteran to participate in the Chennai Test. It was only after the game when he bowled, that they realised the concern regarding Shakib’s finger.

“We know the pain in his hand is being discussed. It was not there before the match and many have tried to explain it in different ways. But before the match, we got a 100 per cent clearance from the physio before taking him. He was a 100 per cent fit then,” said Hannan.

Bangladesh suffered a thumping defeat in Chennai against the dominant Indian unit, losing by a margin of 280 runs thanks to the all-round heroics of Ravichandran Ashwin who scored a century and finished with a six-wicket haul to claim the Player of the Match award.
