Mohammed Siraj Takes Brilliant One-Handed Catch To Dismiss Shakib Al Hasan In 2nd Test - WATCH
Shakib was dismissed for nine runs from 17 balls by Ravichandran Ashwin on the last ball of the 56th over.

Star Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj took a brilliant catch with his left-hand on Monday (September 30) to bring an end to former Bangladesh captain and legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s nine-run knock in the first innings of the ongoing 2nd Test at Green Park in Kanpur.

The incident took place during the first session of the fourth day’s play. Shakib, who was batting on nine runs from 16 balls, tried to step out and hit Ravichandran Ashwin for a big shot, but he failed to connect the ball properly, and it went straight up. After which, Siraj completed a super catch.

Shakib was the sixth Bangladeshi batter to get out in the first inning, and at the time of his dismissal, Bangladesh were 170 for 6 in 56 overs.

The wicket of Shakib was Ashwin’s second in the ongoing match, and it has helped him to complete 50 dismissals in WTC 2023-25. By getting rid of 50 batters, Ashwin became the first bowler in the world to dismiss at least 50 batters each in all three editions of the World Test Championship.

He has also equalled former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan’s record of taking most wickets in Test matches played between India and Bangladesh. Zaheer got rid of 31 Bangladeshi batters in seven Tests, whereas Ashwin has 31 wickets to his name in eight matches played so far.

Ashwin is second on the list of bowlers with most wickets in the WTC 2023-25 cycle. He needs two more wickets to break Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood’s record and become the leading wicket-taker. Hazlewood, who will be seen in action for the Aussies in the five-match Test series from November 2024-January 2025, has 51 wickets to his name in 11 matches played so far in WTC 2023-25.

Ashwin has been in red-hot form for India in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. In the series opener, which was played at MA Chidambarm Stadium in Chennai from September 19-22, he got rid of six batters for 88 runs in the second inning, and before that, he hammered 113 runs from 133 balls in the first inning.
