'Never Felt I Am Playing Domestic or Int'l Cricket ': Akash Deep Praises Rohit Sharma for Easy Transition to National Team

India’s third-choice fast bowler, Akash Deep who has made his way to the national side has credited the skipper, Rohit Sharma for helping through his transition to international cricket.

The 27-year-old has had a fine start to his international career, making a strong impression during his debut Test against England at Ranchi earlier this year. Coming from the domestic setup, he also pointed out the difference in levels in comparison to the domestic circuit.

“When I came here, I witnessed a different level of dedication and hard work from the players who are legends of the game, and considered the gods of cricket like Rohit, Virat bhai,” Akash said ahead of the second Test against Bangladesh.

“I realised that they have achieved so much and are still working so hard during training. Their thought process is at a different level, this motivates me to work even harder,” he added.

After getting the call-up to the Indian side, Akash admitted that he was nervous but it was Rohit’s simple-minded approach that helped him ease his way in marking an easy transition for the national side.

“I had hesitation initially that there would be pressure, but Rohit bhaiya made things so simple. I haven’t played under such a supportive captain. He keeps things simple, I never felt whether I am playing domestic or international cricket,” shared the Indian pacer.

Having played a lot of cricket either, domestically or in the international setup, the fast-bowler reflects on his playing time and emphasises the importance of clarity and knowing their strengths and weaknesses.

“In the last two years, I have played a lot of cricket. It’s not just a three-month season for us. Even after Ranji, you play Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup. As a player, you need to understand yourself and know your strengths,” he said.

While many will be keen to see India’s performance in the coming Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is set to be played in Australia later, this year, Akash Deep remains focused on what he can do at present rather than be distracted by the future.

“When we play at this level, we should not get confused that I played a certain style at that level (Ranji) and things are different here. I don’t put too much pressure that I need to go to Australia and all that. I live in the present. It remains simple for me,” he shared.
