Rohit Sharma's Replacement Confirmed: Star Cricketer to Step in if India Captain Skips a Test on Australia Tour
While the decision could be one that has been made bearing in mind the possibility of the pacer succeeding the skipper in the future, there is a possibility that it could pay dividends in the near future as well, if reports are to be believed.

BCCI announced the Indian Test squad for the home series against New Zealand on Friday, with skipper Rohit Sharma leading the side and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the role of the deputy captain.

Bumrah has stood out with both his ability to make the ball talk and his resilient character to pull India from the depths time and again, and the decision to name him the vice-captain comes after the series against Bangladesh in which the side did not name a designated vice-captain.

While the decision could be one that has been made bearing in mind the possibility of the pacer succeeding the skipper in the future, there is a possibility that it could pay dividends in the near future as well, if reports are to be believed.

Reports suggest that skipper Rohit could miss out on the first two Tests in Australia for personal reasons, and this poses a decision made with the seamer being able to slip in as a replacement for the batter if need be.

India are slated to play three Tests on home soil against the touring Kiwis with the opener scheduled for the 16th of October at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The sides will travel to Pune for the second Test to be hosted at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium beginning on the 24th of the same month.

The Kiwis’ tour culminates at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with the third and final Test to be held from the first of November.

India travels down under for their five-match series against Australia set to get underway at Perth on the 22nd of November.

India’s squad for the New Zealand Test series:

Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.
