The Kolkata Knight Riders led by Shreyas Iyer marched their way onto the finals of the Indian Premier League 2024 with a dominant victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 of the playoffs that took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.
The KKR skipper was in good nick with the bat as he carried the side home with a 24-ball 58 against the SRH bowling attack led by Pat Cummins. He had spoken in the post-match presentation where he revealed his initial reactions after the win.
“Elated by the performance, the responsibility was important, and we stood for each other, extremely happy with the performances,” said Shreyas.

There were concerns about whether there would be rustiness considering that the last match KKR had played was on the 11th of May. But the skipper believes that the extended break was crucial considering all the travel they do through the season.
“The rejuvenation was important for us. When you travel so much, it’s important to stay in the present,” he added.
He praised the team as a whole for coming together once again and putting up an all-round dominant performance. He also credited the bowlers for their ability to take wickets in regular intervals and curb any chances of SRH fighting back.
He commented,” Today was the day we had to maximise, we did it and that’s what we thrive on. I think the way every bowler stood up to this occasion, the way they came in and took wickets, was imperative”.

He added,” The attitude and approach of all bowlers was to take wickets and they did. When you have a variety in the bowling line-up, it’s mesmerising”.
Shreyas suggested that the side has been committed to putting in the hard yards which has enabled them to be in such a dominant position and have just the final step to secure the title.
He said, “They have been true in terms of their work ethics, hopefully, we keep performing. It was Gurbaz’s first game and he gave an impactful start. We had to make sure we carried forward the same run rate”.
During the second innings, he was asked about his chemistry with his fellow Iyer, Venkatesh, he revealed that the two spoke to each other in different languages, Venkatesh spoke to him in Tamil while Shreyas responded in Hindi.
“I don’t know Tamil, but I understand. Venky speaks in Tamil, and I reply in Hindi. We need to be in our zone in the final and make sure we give our best,” he concluded.
