Team India head coach Rahul Dravid is facing a selection dilemma ahead of his side’s first Super Eight fixture against Afghanistan at the T20 World Cup 2024. With one of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal expected to feature in India’s playing 11, the team management may have to drop Mohammed Siraj. But questions over team selection are not the only headache that Dravid had to deal with during the press conference on the eve of India’s Super Eight game in Barbados. Dravid did not seem quite satisfied when he was reminded of India’s 1997 Test defeat against West Indies at the Kensington Oval, the very ground where the Rohit Sharma-led side will face Afghanistan on Thursday.

Rahul Dravid, however, did not lose his cool after being reminded of that fixture. The former India skipper was seen smiling mirthlessly after he was asked by a reporter, “Rahul, you as a player, you have played here. Not the best memories of the 97 Test?"

Responding to it, Rahul Dravid said, “Geez, thanks a lot buddy. I have had some other decent memories here as well." The conversation did not stop there as the reporter went on pressing, “That is actually my question. A chance for you to probably make new and much better memories tomorrow?"

To this, Rahul Dravid replied, “God man! I am not trying to make new anything man. I move on from things very quickly. I think, that’s one of my things. I don’t look back on things. I try and look at what I am doing now, at the moment. I am not concerned about what happened in 97 or some other year."

Chasing an achievable total of 120, India had fallen short of the target by 38 runs in that third Test against West Indies, played in Barbados back in 1997. Rahul Dravid had scored 78 in the first innings of that game to guide the visitors to a solid total of 319. But in the second innings, Dravid could only manage to score two runs. Ian Bishop bagged four wickets in the second innings to earn a memorable win for the West Indies.

Rahul Dravid is currently handling the coaching duties of the Indian cricket team. The T20 World Cup 2024 will be the last assignment of his current stint as the coach of India.
