'We Could Have Pushed the Envelope and Score Faster': LSG's Marcus Stoinis on Their Performance After Beating MI by 4 Wickets
'We Could Have Pushed the Envelope and Score Faster': LSG's Marcus Stoinis on Their Performance After Beating MI by 4 Wickets
LSG's chase of 145 went down to the final over, something Stoinis reckons that they could have done better and potentially improve on their net run-rate.

The Lucknow Super Giants managed to return to winning ways as they beat Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Sports City, Lucknow by a margin of four wickets. The win for LSG was powered by the performance of Marcus Stoinis who chipped in with the bat scoring a half-century and also chipping in with the ball by taking a wicket in the powerplay.

The Australian international, started with the new ball in the powerplay, taking the wicket of the dangerous T20 specialist, Suryakumar Yadav in just the third over of the powerplay. The medium pacer was able to utilise the swing on offer and bowl three of the first six overs in the powerplay where he finished with figures of 1/19.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Stoinis was awarded the Player of the Match award for his performances and was pleased to be relied upon with the fresh new ball.

“Nice to bowl with the new ball. As someone who is not quick, I can try to shape the ball. Did not expect to bowl three in the powerplay but nice to bowl,” said the Australian all-rounder.

Stoinis thought that the wicket that was used was a bit on the slower side but was suggesting that they could have finished off the chase much quicker than taking it to the final over where things got shaky for LSG but got over the line.

“I thought the wicket was okay. We knew it was going to be slow. We could have pushed the envelope and scored a bit faster. If those partnerships went for 8-10 more balls, we would have done it more easily,” he added.

Stoinis showcased his prowess with the bat by scoring a very steady knock of 62 in 45 deliveries. He was however dismissed by Mohammad Nabi with a shorter delivery which the batter looked to go after but found the fielder at the square-leg boundary ropes.

He revealed his frustrations of not being able to finish off the game as he intended. “It was a drag-down, wasn’t it? After doing the hard work and doing the hard stuff, it was just disappointing to get out and leave it to someone else,” said Stoinis.

The all-rounder also reflected on his time with the franchise since its inception and was grateful for the opportunities and the people he has been able to work with.

“This is my third year, fortunate enough to have been here since day one, from before the auction. Have built a few close bonds with people. We are playing good cricket, and everything is good,” Stoinis concluded.
