The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had also announced that following Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the Head Coach of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir would be the new man to take over the role.
Gambhir’s stint as the Head Coach is set to begin from India’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka where the two sides will take each other on in a three-match T20I and ODI series.
Rohit’s availability for the 50-over series is yet to be confirmed with reports suggesting that he and Kohli have asked for a break. The opening batter was part of every Indian game since the Test series against South Africa and also took part in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League followed by the T20 showpiece event.

India’s tour of Sri Lanka is set to begin on July 26 with the T20Is taking place in Pallekelle while the 50-over games will be held in Colombo. The squad that will be making the trip is also yet to be announced.
With Gambhir’s announcement as the Head Coach, it is yet to be seen how the Indian Cricket Board will proceed concerning the coaching staff. Many reports have tipped Abhishek Nayar to be the batting coach while several names like Lakshmipathy Balaji, and Morne Morkel among others are suggested as the possible bowling coach.

Another possible concern is regarding India’s participation in next year’s Champions Trophy which is set to make a return in 2025 but with the tournament being held in Pakistan it is unlikely that the Indian government will provide the approval for Team India to participate owing to the political tensions between the two countries.
