Students from classes 6 through 12 can attend Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for free. In India, there are 649 NVS schools spread throughout 27 states and 8 Union Territories. To take the JNVST 2024, candidates must have finished class 5 in 2023–2024.

There are two phases to the selection process. A written exam consisting of two sections is the first step.
