Meet Gujarat's Mayur Barot, Who Cracked UPSC Indian Forest Service Exam Against All Odds
Mayur Barot got infected with the coronavirus. He also lost his mother when he was on the ventilator because of COVID-19.

In 2020-2021, many people lost their loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayur Barot, a resident of a small village in Mehsana district of Gujarat, also became a victim of this pandemic. He got infected with the coronavirus. His condition worsened so much that he had to be admitted to the hospital and eventually he was put on a ventilator. His condition improved after six doses of Remdesivir injection.

He also lost his mother when he was on the ventilator because of the coronavirus. Due to this, he almost lost his memory. But he refused to give up and became the topper in UPSC IFS (Indian Forest Service) exam.

Mayur Barot gathered himself afresh and started preparing. After two years of preparation, he took the UPSC 2023 IFS exam. No one had any idea that after going through such a difficult phase, Mayur would be able to pass the exam. When the results came, he was holding the UPSC result sheet with his trembling hands. He became an Indian Forest Service Officer by securing the All India 11th rank.

According to Indian Master Minds, Mayur Barot belonged to a family where farming was the only source of livelihood. After schooling, he obtained an engineering degree in Instrumentation and Control from Ahmedabad. After this, he got a private job, but he wanted to be a government employee. He took seven exams, including Patwari, Junior Clerk, Assistant Exam, Senior Clerk, Clerk, Assistant Tribal Development Officer and Deputy SO and got selected in all seven. Out of these, he joined the post of Deputy SO. But later he decided to take the UPSC exam.

Mayur had also secured 30th rank in the Mamlatdar Recruitment Examination of the Gujarat Public Service Commission and 26th rank in the State Tax Officer Recruitment Examination. After battling the disaster of the Corona epidemic, he worked hard for two years and then secured 11th rank in UPSC IFS 2023. Earlier, he had cracked the prelims of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021. But could not crack the mains due to the epidemic.
