Meet Punjab’s Rachit Aggarwal, Who Scored 100 Percentile In JEE Main 2024
Rachit feels that motivation to succeed can come from small things and in unexpected ways.

Rachit Aggarwal from Jalandhar in Punjab is among the candidates who scored 100 percentile in JEE Main, according to the results released late Wednesday. He feels that motivation to succeed can come from small things and in unexpected ways. For this 18-year-old boy, he never planned to study engineering and didn’t want to study “too much” until Class 10. His motivation also came from the Japanese cartoon series Dragon ball Z and its protagonist Goku, who “defends the earth against evil.” His inspiration was also his elder brother Saksham Aggarwal, who is studying computer engineering at BITS Pilani. “Motivation has to be drawn from small, insignificant things. It can be anything. I used to watch Dragon Ball Z a lot until Class 10. I was never a 24×7 bookworm and I had no plans to study engineering,” says Rachit Aggarwal, who also loves creative writing, poetry and playing the guitar.

Rachit is also an avid fan of the Harry Potter series. “Up until Class 10, my attitude towards academic subjects was such that in Class 11 and 12, I did not want to take non-medical subjects, but my brother motivated me. I was never a studious person,” says Rachit Aggarwal, who took tuition at Aakash Institute.

His father Neeraj Aggarwal owns a tiles and sanitary ware shop, while his mother Ritu Aggarwal gives tuition classes. For those who want to make it to the IITs but are afraid of maths and physics, he says, “Students often develop deep fears when they hear words like maths and physics, but let’s face it, nobody knows these subjects before you actually start. It’s about having a blind faith in yourself: yes, I can do it and I must do it. Once that andha vishwaas (blind faith) is there, everything starts making sense.”

“Living in a joint family with grandparents also helped me a lot. There was always someone in the family to encourage me when I was feeling down. Whenever I was studying, someone would come and switch off the TV,” Rachit Aggarwal adds.
