Meet The Jharkhand IAS Officer Who Has Received 27 National Awards For E-Governance
The officer was honoured for the implementation of Jharkhand Jal Chhajan Yojana.

To become an IAS, IPS and IFS officer, candidates have to appear for the UPSC Civil Service examination first. The candidates who will be able to pass this examination with good ranks will be selected for the role of IAS, IPS and IFS. One such story is that of the 2002 IAS batch student, Dr Manish Ranjan. The then Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary of Jharkhand, Dr Manish was honoured for the implementation of Jharkhand Jal Chhajan Yojana. He was awarded the 27th National Award for e-Governance 2024 organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and the Department of Electronics and Information Technology. He is currently working as the Secretary of Rural Development (RD), Additional Charge of Rural Construction Department (RWD). He belongs to Saran district of Bihar and completed his schooling from Netarhat in Jharkhand. Dr Manish was also very interested in drama and he has performed in many plays in his college life.

He has been a brilliant student since childhood. He appeared for his class 10 and class 12 examination from Bihar and was also a topper in the Bihar Board class 12 examination. Manish Ranjan moved to Delhi for higher studies. After this, he completed his graduation in Sociology and Economics from Hindu College, Delhi University in the year 1996. He later on completed his MBA from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand. He obtained a Master of Public Affairs, Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley in the year 2020.

Over the course of his career, he has held important positions in the state of Jharkhand, focusing on creating sustainable solutions for governance issues and promoting development in rural areas. One of the notable areas of his work is his contribution to education and skill development, especially in rural regions. He has been instrumental in promoting policies that aim to bridge the gap between urban and rural education. His work often emphasises inclusive growth, particularly by empowering underprivileged communities. Apart from this, he is also a bestselling author. His books are very helpful for the students who are preparing for the civil service exams.
