To bolster international educational exchanges and foster academic collaboration, Taiwan has introduced a specialized scholarship program targeting students from South Asian countries. Known as the MOE Taiwan Scholarship Programme, this initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of Taiwan, offering undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities for aspiring scholars from nations including India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Maldives.
Taiwan’s scholarship scheme aims to provide a platform for South Asian students to pursue higher education in a dynamic and technologically advanced environment, promoting cross-cultural communication, understanding and friendship among participating countries. With a focus on academic excellence and intercultural exchange, the programme shows Taiwan’s commitment to global education and collaboration.
Under the MOE Taiwan Scholarship, eligible students receive financial assistance to support their academic pursuits. Each semester, students are granted 40,000 New Taiwanese Dollars, equivalent to approximately Rs 1,05,396, providing essential financial support to alleviate the burden of tuition fees and living expenses. Additionally, undergraduate students receive a stipend of 15,000 New Taiwanese Dollars, approximately Rs 39,646.40, while masters and doctoral candidates are entitled to a monthly stipend of 20,000 New Taiwanese Dollars, around Rs 52,861.86. This financial aid empowers students to focus on their studies and fully immerse themselves in the academic experience.
To qualify for the scholarship programme, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria. South Asian students with outstanding academic records and commendable character are encouraged to apply. Additionally, proficiency in the Chinese language demonstrated through the Test of Chinese Language as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) Level 3, is required for programs not taught entirely in English. However, students without TOCFL certification may still apply for English-taught programs, expanding accessibility and inclusivity.
The application process for the MOE Taiwan Scholarship Programme is currently open, with the deadline set for March 31. Prospective scholars are invited to submit their applications online through the official website of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan.
