Educational Qualification

It is necessary to have a bachelor’s degree from any recognized university. This degree can be in any subject. After a bachelor’s degree, you have to do a three-year LLB course. If you want to do LLB directly after the 12th, then you have to do a five-year integrated LLB course (BA LLB).

Bar Council Registration: After obtaining an LLB degree, you have to register with the Bar Council of India. Passing the Bar Council Exam called All India Bar Examinations is necessary to get registered with the Bar.

The process of becoming an Advocate consists of some important steps:

LLB Entrance Exam

Many universities and law colleges conduct CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) or other state-level exams for admission. By clearing these exams, you can get admission to an LLB course.

Various subjects are studied in the LLB course like Constitution, Criminal Law, Civil Law, Corporate Law etc. Along with this, moot courts, internships and practical training also play an important role. It is followed by the AIBE exam.

Salary

The salary of an advocate depends on many factors, such as experience, expertise, number of clients and complexity of the case. According to Prince Pathak, a new advocate can get a salary of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per month in the beginning. As experience and reputation increase, this salary can reach lakhs of rupees per month. Some renowned advocates charge fees of lakhs per case.

Advocate Prince Pathak said that after becoming an advocate, you have many career options:

  • Independent Practice: You can practice independently by opening your chamber, in which you can fight cases for your clients.
  • Law Firms: You can work in big and reputed law firms, where you get the opportunity to work on different types of legal matters.
  • Corporate Sector: You can work as a legal advisor in many big companies. Here you can get expertise in areas like corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and contract management.
  • Government Jobs: Government institutions also have job opportunities in posts like Legal Advisor, Public Prosecutor, Legal Assistant etc.
