Speculations are rife that Abbas and Mustan are all set to helm a sequel to their 2002 romantic thriller Humraaz after 22 years. The film starring Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna and Ameesha Patel has aged well with its music achieving a cult status. On Wednesday, a report started doing the rounds that after discussing hundreds of ideas for Humraaz 2 in the last couple of years, the director duo has finally cracked a script ‘that’s not just bigger but also better than the first part’. Apparently, Abbas-Mustan along with producer Ratan Jain are keen on bringing back Bobby and Akshaye to reprise their characters.
Whether Ameesha will also be a part of the second part of Humraaz is still unclear. However, chances of her return to the thriller are quite high as she delivered a blockbuster with Gadar 2 last year. When News18 Showsha reached out to her, she revealed that though she has been in the loop for a sequel for a long time now, she’s still unsure if the makers have locked a script.
“It was quite a surprise seeing the news all over a few days back. I was surely aware that the producers and the directors have been working on some script for Humraaz 2 but whether it’s locked or not, I’ve no idea. In fact, I came to know more about it when it came out in the media recently where a report said that the directors have cracked some concept,” said the Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai actor.
But Ameesha chose to remain tight-lipped about the sequel beyond this. “I guess it’s best to leave it to the producer, Mr Ratan Jain, who will speak about it whenever he feels that it’s the correct time and the makers feel that they are ready,” she stated.
Following the success of Gadar 2 last year that marked her return to the big screen after many years, Ameesha shared that she wouldn’t like to wait any longer before her next project. While much isn’t known about her upcoming line-up of films, there are rumours that Gadar 3 is in the making and it will see her reprising the character of Sakeena once again.
Though there isn’t any official confirmation on the same, Ameesha told us a while back, “To be honest, I’ve no clue about Gadar 3. It’s too premature [to speak about]. I don’t know what might happen… I don’t think anyone has given it a very serious thought as of now.”
As for Humraaz, it was revolved around the themes of love, betrayal and suspense with elements of crime and conspiracy and was received well by critics and audiences alike upon release. It was inspired from the 1989 American film A Perfect Murder starring Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow. Interestingly, Humraaz was supposed to mark the debut of Priyanka Chopra Jonas but Ameesha was eventually offered to step into Priyanka’s shoes. Its music album was the highest-selling Indian Hindi-language soundtrack of 2002.
